GARDEN PARTY – JUNE 26th 2011

Once again, the sun shone gloriously on Hindhead for this event, which continues to improve every year with more stalls, lots of games and items for sale. As usual, the Haslemere Town Band entertained us with a selection of tunes both nostalgic and modern and this year we had the added attraction of the Remix Voices choir who lifted the spirits with pop songs sung in three part harmony. We also had a good selection of tasty refreshments and thirst quenching drinks !

Some people who definitely deserved a long cool drink by the end of the weekend were the hard working volunteers, organised by Paul Hanks, who devote their weekend to setting up, running and taking down the stalls.

This fun day for all the family attracted hundreds of people and raised a staggering £4,018 - the most raised since the Garden Party was first held. Happily, the event also continues to be a summer highlight for our residents, which has always been equally as important as the fund raising element. We are always aware that the residents invite us all into their home and gardens to enjoy the day with them and we are grateful for the welcome extended.

Naturally, all the events that we organise are to raise funds, to have fun and to publicise the Association, but they could never be successful without the assistance and hard work throughout the year of a lot of different people and my thanks go to every member of the Fund Raising Committee and our various sub committees, as well as the members of the Executive Committee and the wonderful staff of Shannon Court for their continued support. If you, as an individual, or your Lodge members would like to help out at the Garden Party or, even better, organise your own stall, please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
