The annual Friends of Shannon Court Charity Golf Day at Betchworth Park Golf Club on 19 May was blessed by good weather yet again and 112 players in 28 teams turned up and had an excellent day’s golf. However, yet again there were no ladies’ teams but we were pleased to welcome several individual lady players.
Notwithstanding the current circumstances we raised a very creditable £3,300 which will continue to help improve the lives of the residents of Shannon Court.
Yet again the results were of a very high order, for the third year running the individual winner was Peter Huffer with 42 points on a handicap of 7. The leading lady was Mrs D McMullan with 36 points. The winning team of Ray Hussey, Arnold Long, Ian Smith and Simon McCarthy accumulated 116 points. Ray was particularly satisfying as he instituted this event several years ago and has yet to win it – until now! Second were the Box Hill Boys with 115 points.
On this occasion we were pleased to welcome Mike Yalden, Deputy Provincial Grand Master to present the prizes.
Next year the Golf Day is on Thursday 17 May, again at Betchworth Park, to whom our thanks are due for their help and organisation in running what is becoming the premier Masonic golf event in the Province of Surrey.
